- Prepare a trusted testnet:Address (friend or second wallet).
- Send a tiny amount:On testnet and copy the transaction hash.
- Open the hash in:An explorer; label each field.
- Watch status move from:Pending to confirmed; count confirmations.
- Write down what each:Field means in plain English.
Plain-English storyThis is your first send, but we’re doing it on testnet so nothing real is at risk. Using MetaMask, you’ll send a tiny amount, open the transaction in a block explorer, and read every field—From, To, Value, Fee, Nonce, Status, Confirmations—so you’re relying on facts instead of a wallet popup.
Why we’re doing it this wayBeginners often click “send” and hope. Here, you’ll slow down and follow a MetaMask-friendly checklist: confirm the address preview (first/last characters), confirm the amount, glance at the gas estimate, click “view on block explorer,” and watch confirmations stack. These steps become muscle memory you can trust with real money later.
Other walletsIf you prefer Rabby, Coinbase Wallet, or another reputable wallet, the flow is the same: verify the recipient, send on testnet, and read the transaction on the explorer. The buttons may move, but the principles don’t change.
Your goalBe able to explain what a transaction hash is (a unique receipt), why the nonce keeps your sends in order, and how confirmations make a payment harder to reverse. You’ll also know how to prove a payment on an explorer without asking anyone to “just believe you.”
