Foundations of Blockchain & Trust — Part 1
by D47K.com
Before there were computers, there were stones.
On the island of Yap, people recorded wealth through massive stone discs called Rai. They didn’t move them — they just remembered who owned which. A shared memory of value, nothing more. That system worked because the community trusted its collective memory.
Now replace the island with the internet, and the stones with encrypted data.
That’s blockchain — humanity’s oldest idea rebuilt with modern tools: shared truth without central authority.
We’ve always tried to capture trust in some form — ledgers, receipts, banks, signatures. Blockchain simply stripped away the paper, the middlemen, and the bureaucracy, replacing them with code that behaves like collective memory.
