DeFi, Risk & Regulation — Part 1

#part1 – The Bankless Experiment
If Bitcoin was a rebellion against money, DeFi — Decentralised Finance — is a rebellion against the system that manages it.
For decades, finance depended on intermediaries: banks, brokers, clearing houses. DeFi replaced those with smart contracts that lend, borrow, and trade without anyone in charge.
It’s elegant in theory — unstoppable in practice.
Billions now flow through DeFi platforms every day. Yet, if you ask who’s responsible when things go wrong, the answer echoes: no one in particular.
That’s both the magic and the mayhem.
DeFi took Wall Street’s complexity and made it permissionless. In doing so, it gave power back to users — and risk along with it.
