Touch the bytesSeeing selectors and encoded args in hex cements the mental model. Use testnets so mistakes are cheap.

Steps
  1. Grab a verified contract:On a testnet explorer, copy its ABI JSON; paste into an ABI decoder to see functions and events.
  2. Decode a known calldata:(e.g., transfer) using an online tool or ethers.js’s Interface; confirm selector and arguments.
  3. Encode a call to:A function with a string + array parameter; send it on a testnet and read it back in the explorer.
  4. Change a parameter type:Locally (e.g., uint256 → uint8) and observe how the selector changes.
  5. Optional:Decode a log entry from an explorer by pasting topics/data into a decoder with the correct event signature.
