5/9 — Ethereum Accounts & EOAs — Hands-on
CalibrateSee this model in the wild. Do the steps on a testnet first, then repeat on mainnet with tiny values so you’re looking at the exact UI your users will see. Take screenshots—future you (and your teammates) will thank you.
Privacy is necessary for an open society in the electronic age.
Read the UIPay attention to explorer wording for nonce, from, and to. Those labels are what panicked users will quote back to you. Treat this like calibration before you depend on scripts in production.
Steps
- Open a testnet explorer,:Paste an EOA, and record balance, nonce, and recent transactions. Refresh after sending a tiny transfer and watch the nonce increment.
- Find a verified contract:(for example, a testnet ERC-20). Notice there is no nonce field and no way for it to “send” a transaction by itself.
- Drill into one transaction:That touches the contract. Identify the from (an EOA), the to (the contract), and confirm that the from address is also the gas payer.
- Use your own wallet:To send two pending transactions with the same nonce one with low gas, one with higher gas. Observe the higher-fee transaction replace the lower-fee one.
- Trigger a contract function:That emits events. Follow the internal transaction trace and see how the originating EOA remains the payer through nested calls.
- Optional:Try a keeper service or cron-like script that calls a contract on a schedule so you can see how “automation” still starts from an EOA.
